Today we start again with Chapter 13 of the book Christ the Healer by F. F. Bosworth. The title of this chapter is “Why Some Fail to Receive Healing from Christ”.
In this Chapter, Brother Bosworth discusses reasons why people sometimes do not experience what they see revealed in God’s Word as his will for them, specifically concerning healing.
The first reason he gives is “Insufficient instruction — Ignorance concerning the Healing Power of the Gospel.”
Today we are going to focus on the second and third reason Bro. Bosworth gives for why some people struggle to receive healing or do not experience it at all, and that is community unbelief and the Church is not on one accord teaching what the Scripture reveals as God’s will concerning healing.
Remember, Jesus himself could not do mighty miracles in his own hometown because of unbelief. (Mark 6:5)
Now I’m not going to go over again what Bro. Bosworth does in Chapter 13 and I encourage you to read it for yourself, but I do want to mention that he talks about how when God’s people were on one accord, believing, speaking and acting together in agreement with God’s Word, mighty things happened.
Now I want to address some things that I believe will help you.
If you want to be strong in faith concerning healing, you need to be in a Church that preaches, teaches and believes what the Scriptures say about healing. Cooperate belief can help your faith but cooperate unbelief can also hinder it.
If you are not in a Church that believes and preaches healing, then you are not going to be fed and encouraged like you should in the area of healing. Not only that, but you will be attacked, argued against and it may drain you. You want to be around those will spur you on to faith and works, not consistently be around those who you have to overcome.
Now let’s look at some Scripture and then I will point out things I believe will help.
Mark 5
21 And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. 22 Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23 and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” 24 And he went with him.
35 While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 But overhearing[e] what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” 37 And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. 38 They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus[f] saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. 41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
There was a great crowd with Jesus but once the word came of the little girls death, Jesus did not allow the crowd to walk with him any more. He only kept around him a few men of faith and the girls father which he said to, “Do not fear, only believe”.
We need to retrain our brains here. Jesus did not allow people to follow him. Why? Because they would hinder the miracle from coming forth.
Also, when he comes to where the little girl was, he put people out. He only let the child’s father, mother and the few men of faith that were with him to be there. Then Jesus told her to arise and the result was, “And immediately the girl got up and began walking.”
Amen! We’ve got to understand that the faith or lack of faith of those around us can help or hinder our healing.
Now did Jesus love those he told to stop following? Of course but there comes a time when you need to be firm and only allow brothers and sisters of faith close to you, to stand with you as you believe God.
Don’t tell everyone what you are believing. Use wisdom and be led. Be aware that even Jesus made sure some were not close to him when it was time for faith to take hold of a miracle.
Blessings in Christ,
Tim Dumas
